Wasp Nest in a Cavity Wall – How Professionals Treat Hidden Nests in Enderby
A few minutes spent noting what you have seen, from a safe distance, can make the booking call quicker and help the technician plan the visit.
A calm call starts with a few notes
When wasps are going into a wall, it is easy to phone in a hurry and forget the details that matter. The call goes more smoothly if you have a minute to write a few things down first. You do not need technical language, only an honest description of what you can see and hear.
This checklist is built around a nest hidden in a wall, but much of it works for any nest.
Treat the notes as a guide rather than an exam. Many callers know little more than that wasps are coming and going from somewhere on the wall. That is a perfectly good start, and we can take it from there.
The checklist
- Where exactly are the wasps going in? Describe the spot: an air brick, a gap by a window, the roof edge, a hole near a pipe.
- Roughly how high is it? Ground level, first-floor height or up by the gutter.
- Which direction does the wall face? Front, back or side of the property.
- How busy is it? A few wasps now and then, or a steady stream.
- Have any wasps come indoors? Say which room and where, such as near a socket or skirting.
- Can you hear anything? A hum or scratching inside the wall.
- Is the entrance easy to reach? A garden path, a side gate, a flat roof, a locked yard.
- Has anything been blocked or filled? Be honest, since it helps us plan.
None of these answers need to be exact. Rough information is fine.
If you are able to take a photograph from a safe distance, a wide shot showing the whole wall is more useful than a close-up. It shows the position of windows, pipes and the roof edge and helps us picture the building.
Safety information we need
Please tell us if anyone in the household or building is allergic to wasp stings, so that we can take it into account. The same goes for young children or anyone with a health condition that makes a sting more of a worry.
If anyone has been stung and has swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheeze or difficulty breathing, dizziness or a widespread rash, call 999 without waiting. For ordinary stings, wash the area, remove the sting if you can see it and apply a cold pack. People with known allergies should speak to their GP about what to do if they are stung.
When you phone, the person taking the call will talk through the questions, so you do not have to remember them all. The checklist is only there to save you scrabbling for information while the phone rings.
What you should not do before we arrive
- Do not go close to the wall to get a better look. The photo from the garden gate is enough.
- Do not block, tape or fill the gap.
- Do not pour anything into the opening or hose it down.
- Do not poke the wall or knock on it to hear the response.
- Do not worry about tidying up inside; the technician is not there to inspect your housekeeping.
These are the same pieces of advice we give for every hidden nest, and they exist because the wasps are protecting a very busy home.
It is also worth avoiding the temptation to ask neighbours to try their own remedies. Well-meant advice from over the fence is sometimes the source of the trouble, especially when it involves blocking the hole.
Access, payment and the visit itself
Think about whether the technician can reach the outside of the wall without help from you. If there is a locked gate, a dog in the garden or a car blocking the side passage, mention it. We do not need you to be home in every case, but we do need to be able to get to the entrance.
The price is a fixed £95 for the nest and £35 for any additional nest on the same property. There is no call-out charge. We confirm the price on the phone before the visit and nothing is done without your agreement. Training and full insurance cover the technician who attends.
A householder in Enderby may also ask whether the empty nest can be taken down afterwards. Ask when you phone, and the answer will depend on where the nest is.
If you are not going to be at home, tell us who will be, or whether the technician can reach the wall without you. Access to a rear garden is the most frequent snag, so a quick word about gates and dogs saves time.
If you are a tenant, speak to the property owner or agent about who should book, as arrangements differ and depend on your tenancy agreement. We can only take bookings from someone who can agree to the work and the price.
Making the call
To book, ring 0116 214 9259 or use the online booking form on the contact page. We open seven days a week, offer same-day service and take domestic and commercial jobs.
Colonies grow until August, when a nest can hold 2,000 to 10,000 wasps or more, so if you have noticed a flight path into a wall, it is better to arrange treatment now than to see how things develop.
Ahead of the visit, it is a good idea to keep the wall area clear and keep an eye on the entrance in case anything changes. If the situation alters, such as wasps entering a room, tell us when we arrive.
