Wasp Nest in Your Garden Shed? Safe Treatment Options in Whetstone

Knowing what to expect from the first phone call to the final check removes most of the worry, so here is the whole process in order.

Step one: the phone call

Ring or fill in the online form, and tell us where the shed is and what you have seen. We ask a few simple questions about the entrance, the building and anyone in the household who is allergic. Then we confirm the price: £95 for a nest, with £35 for an additional nest on the same property, and no call-out charge.

You can say no at this point and nothing is done. No work happens without your agreement.

Have the address and a description of where the wasps go in and out ready. If the shed is at the end of a long garden or behind a side gate, say so, and mention any locked gates or dogs the technician should know about.

It is also the moment to mention if the nest is very close to a path, washing line or play area, which can affect how the visit is planned.

Step two: arranging the visit

The business is open seven days a week and offers same-day service for domestic and commercial customers, covering Whetstone and the villages around it. We arrange a time that suits you and tell you what to do beforehand.

You will be asked to keep children and pets indoors, leave the shed closed and make sure the technician can reach the garden. You do not need to tidy, empty or move anything.

You can phone 0116 214 9259 or send the booking form from the contact page.

If you prefer, the online booking form on the contact page lets you write the details out rather than speaking. Include your phone number so we can confirm the price with you.

Step three: the technician arrives

The technician is trained and the work is fully insured. They will say hello, check the address and ask you to point out where you have seen the wasps. They will then look at the building from outside, find the entrance and decide how to approach.

Stay indoors from this point, unless asked otherwise. Close windows facing the garden and keep animals and children away from them.

If you have a question about the empty nest, the work or the price, this is a good time to ask. The technician can explain things in plain terms, and you can decide how you would like to proceed.

The technician will also tell you where to stand and which doors to keep closed.

Do not follow the technician around the garden. A single calm person is less likely to unsettle wasps than a small crowd, and the technician can concentrate on the task.

Step four: the treatment

The technician treats the nest. You do not need to watch, and it is better not to. The aim is to deal with it in one visit, in line with the price graphic that says one visit guaranteed.

If a second nest is found on the same property, the technician will let you know and the additional nest is £35 extra. If you would like the empty nest taken down, ask at booking or on the day.

The treatment is carried out from a safe approach by someone trained to do it. We do not describe the method here, and you do not need to know it, but you can ask the technician afterwards if you are curious.

Once the work is complete, the technician will tell you what you should expect over the following days.

Do not be surprised if a few wasps are still seen near the entrance later in the day. This is normal, as workers that were out foraging come back to find the nest gone.

Step five: what you do afterwards

The technician will tell you when it is safe to go back into the garden and when to open the shed. Follow that advice. Some wasps out foraging may return to the old site for a while, and they can still sting.

When it is safe, clear the shed in daylight with gloves on, sweep away fragments, and check the walls and roof for gaps. Fill them to discourage another queen next spring.

If you have an alarm, pets or children, keep them away from the garden for the rest of the day. The technician will advise on how long, based on what they saw.

Do not move or dismantle anything near the entrance until you have been told. Leave the shed shut and tidy it the following day, at the earliest, in daylight.

Wash your hands and clothes after the clear-up, and bag any fragments in a sealed liner before putting them in the bin.

Step six: keeping watch

For the next few days, keep an eye on the shed from a distance. If wasps are still using the same entrance in numbers, ring again and tell us what you see. The odd stray wasp is normal.

Through the rest of the year, look after the building and the habits that attract wasps, such as open bins and fallen fruit. A short check each April finishes the job.

You might also want to check neighbouring properties. If a nest was in your shed, a neighbour’s outbuilding may have one too, and a friendly mention could spare them a surprise.

If you ever need us again, we are open seven days a week, and the process is the same each time.

Keep the technician’s advice in mind and follow up promptly if anything seems unusual. A call costs nothing, and describing what you have noticed lets us tell you what is normal and what is not.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a visit take?
It depends on the building and the position of the nest, so the technician will give you an idea when they arrive.
Do I need to be at home?
It helps to be there to point out the shed, but if you cannot be, arrange for someone to give access and tell us when you book.
Can I ask questions during the visit?
Yes. Ask the technician before or after the treatment, keeping at a safe distance while they work.
